Mentor Lesson #6: Get MO in YO life

You can have mentors in many different areas of your life.

And one of the mentors who has impacted me greatly in my life is Pastor Miles McPherson (The Rock Church, San Diego). He has that gift when preaching and speaking to make you feel like, “He’s talking directly to me.”

Many years ago he said something during a sermon that was very funny (he does that a lot).

And what he said pertains really to ALL areas of your life.

Miles said, “You got to get MO’ in yo life!”

And then he explained.

All of us are trying to get MO-MENTUM in our life. Momentum in our careers. In our jobs. In getting your “BHAG’s” done. In your relationships. In your physical health. In your spiritual walk.

Momentum is a good thing. If you think of an athletic contest, momentum shifts play a major role in the outcome of a game.

If you think of business, you gotta love when mo-mentum is flowing and it’s going the way you envisioned it. Clients are happy. There is a continuous influx of new clients and members enlisting in your services. Your team is thriving. The culture is pumping. And you got that bounce in your step.

If you think of your own life, when things are going well and you are feeling strong and healthy, you become more vibrant and radiant. And you have that extra confidence and swag. And then “coincidentally,” (or not) a series of good things seem to happen all in a row.

That is called MO-MENTUM.

And we could all use more of it in our lives.

The problem is that sometimes we get in our own way. Or we let excuses build up and we start to have negative self-talk. And we begin saying things like:

“Now is not the right time.”
“I’ll wait until the economy shifts.”
“I’ll wait to do that until I have ‘x’ amount of money in the bank.”
“I’m too young.”
“I’m too old.”
“I have too much education.”
“I don’t have enough education.”
“I am over qualified.”
“I am under-qualified.”

And the excuses go on and on. And they are robbing you of YOU being the BEST version of you.

2 ways to combat this:

1. Faith. Not just faith in God. But faith in yourself. I personally think they go hand-in-hand but we can save that talk for another day. But you need faith.

2. Take ACTION. NOW! Say yes to what you do want, even when you don’t know all the answers, and you will figure it out along the way.

So if you want some serious MO-mentum in your life, now is the time to take ACTION on what you most want in life.

YOUR ACTION STEP:

1. Define what is the biggest excuse that is currently holding you back from achieving the ONE THING you most want/need in your life right now.

2. Next, take ONE specific ACTION step that will help you overcome that excuse/fear and help you achieve your goal. And put down a date or deadline when you will take your ACTION step!

Instead of living by the mantra “Ready…AIM…AIM…AIM…” and never even firing, I have a different mantra I live by.

Ready…FIRE…aim!!!

Get yourself ready, prepare like mad, and then start FIRING. That is called ACTION. And ACTION leads to MO-MENTUM.

And MO-MENTUM leads to MO health, MO money, MO happiness, MO harmony, MO everything.

So get MO in YO life and watch what happens.

Thanks Miles. You never disappoint. You just gotta have faith and be willing to overcome fear/ adversity/ excuse to take action. Time for me to go get some MO!!!

Much love… and much MO.

Todd
