Momma Durkin’s Passing [SOUL FUEL #15]

It’s been a long weekend. Mom passed Saturday morning at the age of 91.
WOW! My 7-sisters and brothers have been preparing for months for this moment but it’s never easy—even when you know it’s coming. It’s been a long few day!
I spoke with Mom just Friday (3-days ago) and she said some things I’ll never forget.
As a matter of fact, I’m reviving my video SOUL FUELS so that I can express my gratitude, love, and words of love for “Momma Durkin” as well as share a few personal anecdotes.

Todd Durkin Sharing his SOUL FUEL about Grieving, Keeping Faith, and what Momma Durkin Meant to Him

There are 2 Scripture verses that are giving me comfort during this difficult time.

This is what they say:

First one is from Matthew 11:28-30. It states:
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

The other one is 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NIV)
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is Eternal.

Regardless of your faith, death is something we all will face. And it’s been 34-years since I lost my first parent (My Dad dead when I was just 20 and he was 58). This is an interesting time that’s putting me in uncharted territories of having BOTH parents gone.
