Featuring Nick Alfieri

Football Star to Film-Maker – The Incredible Story of “Unicorn Town”

Today’s podcast is crazy and inspiring, and it takes me back to a time when I was playing pro-American football in Europe. It’s about a young man who went from being a college gridiron star at Georgetown to quitting the #1 graduate film school in the country, to creating an extraordinary new film and documentary called “Unicorn Town.” It’s a MUST-watch. I first heard of “Unicorn Town” while in the Bahamas delivering a keynote and it was recommended I watch “Unicorn Town” by one of the attendees, as it features a story that is similar to a past life of mine when I was a pro-football player in Europe. I watched the movie on the plane on the way home from the Bahamas and it blew me away. The film accurately and entertainingly depicted the life of an American football player playing pro football in a small German town and their quest to win a championship.

After watching “Unicorn Town” (produced and starring Nick Alfieiri), I immediately sent Nick a direct message asking if he would be a guest on the IMPACT Show. He obliged and shared that he’s been following me on social media for a long time and would love to share the behind-the-scenes making of Unicorn Town. Haha. Lets GOOO!!!!

You’re in for a real treat today. Get ready for some great wisdom and inspiration from an incredible young man who has a heckuva future in movie production.

On today’s IMPACT Show podcast, Nick and I discuss:

  • His career and scholastics at Georgetown, where he was team captain, All-Patriot League, and wore the coveted Joe Eacoabacci #35 Jersey his senior year, a tribute to a former Georgetown football captain who was killed in the September 11 attacks.
  • What made Nick leave film school at USC for European football to play in Germany for the Unicorns in Schwabisch Hall, Germany.
  • Why Nick decided to make a documentary of his football journey with the Unicorns.
  • The behind-the-scenes of a two-year project creating “Unicorn Town.”
  • Roadblocks, struggles, and lessons during the filmmaking process.
  • How breaking his collarbone ended up being one of his greatest blessings.
  • What’s next in Nick’s career?
  • Advice to a young aspiring filmmaker.
  • Nick turns the table and asks me a few deep questions

What a great story Nick shared on his two-year journey creating Unicorn Town. This is a must-watch movie and such a great podcast filled with passion and the persistent quest to WIN! Check out the trailer here.
