Look Who’s Serious

Last month, I started a Get Serious Campaign when I realized that too many clients and friends talk about goals without taking action. I’m all about setting goals – even big, hairy, audacious goals – but a goal without action is like a boat without water. What’s the purpose?

My friends, goals are meant to be accomplished and I promise you that people who ‘get serious’ accomplish their goals. Serious people start with a personal inventory to get prepared, document reality; address personal weaknesses in advance, and DO THE WORK! My last feature article outlined six steps to getting serious – these four and a few others. If you missed last month’s TD Times, check it out here.

You might remember I closed last month’s article with an invitation for readers to write to me – tweet me or Facebook me with personal goals and action plans. I received immediate feedback. It was the wake-up call I wanted it to be. It got people’s attention. I hope it got yours.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this campaign. I’ve talked with clients and staff, even members of my family, about getting serious. I’ve heard a lot of stories and I’m excited to see the campaign gain traction. In this month’s feature article, I want to tell you about some of the Get Serious followers – the men and women rising to the challenge to get serious about their goals – to accomplish something important, and to get 1% better each day. Checkout these 10 short entries from the growing Get Serious campaign.

  • Chris Raymond. I am getting serious about my career. I am an up and coming strength coach trying to become one of the best… Reading [TD’s] book IMPACT! pushed me to apply for graduate school for Exercise Science and I hope to get accepted. If I get in, I will be more serious than ever before.
  • Trina Gray. Heck yeah, TD! I am serious about leading from the front – mentoring my fitness team to over deliver! I put out a challenge this morning. We are scoring ourselves weekly for April on the awesome Tom Davin quote: “The way you do anything is the way you do everything!” From cleaning equipment to replying to emails to smiling at clients – small things show your commitment to living BIG!
  • Laticia Wood. I’m getting serious about my fitness again…time to recommit! Took pictures and measurements and started a food journal. Made a pact with a friend to keep each other accountable everyday. Time to get serious indeed. Thanks for the inspiration TD!
  • Jennifer Ryan-Watkins. It’s time to get serious about Staying Committed… I make a commitment, that’s the fun and easy part, but then I let “life” get in my way. Balance and commitment is what this busy mom needs!
  • Pierre Deschesnes. I take Action every day to Become a Better New Me. My actions could be spiritual, physical, mental, relational or for my career. On May 1st, I set up my goal list. During the day I work on my 5 pillars… I do a checkpoint at 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, and before I go to bed. This way, I stay focused and GO DEEP for the extra mile.
  • Tina Richard. I am getting so serious about my nutrition. I’ve let it slide way too many times and it’s holding me back. Let’s move it forward, baby!
  • Michael Suggs. I’m getting serious about my fitness. I enlisted the help of a coach to help me with my workout plans. It’s an 8-week program and the results have been great so far.
  • Sam Jeffcoat. I am serious about getting my mind right. I can train hard and eat right, but if there is just a little self-doubt, it is all for nothing. I am ready to get 1% better everyday and live the life I WANT! No Excuses!
  • Patti Durkin. I’m serious about getting to yoga class twice a week and carving out quality time to decompress daily with breath and relaxation.
  • Kristi Miller. I needed to see this right now – thanks!! I was on the verge of skipping my workout, but you reminded me that I am GETTING SERIOUS!

Folks, the Get Serious Campaign is off to a great start! These are just a few of the stories – there are more – and I am so proud of everyone! It’s not easy to stay focused on your goal when life keeps getting in the way. It’s not easy to make real change. But people are doing it – they are getting serious and you can too. Again, I invite you to get serious and tell me about it – tweet me, Facebook me, tell me when you see me. Keep me posted on your progress. We’re in this together.

Before closing, I want to tell you about something I got serious about last year when my team and I got down to business to create a client program for motivation, commitment and accountability. The Perfect 10 Club was born at Fitness Quest 10. Every month for the last 10 months, participants tracked the number of workouts and bodywork sessions they completed in our performance center. Each consecutive month they completed 10 or more, they moved closer to the Perfect 10 Elite status (10 or more for 10 consecutive months). April marked the end of the first 10 months of the program and we have a big celebration coming up this Sunday, May 15th.  There have been lots of rewards along the way, but this Sunday we’re celebrating big with our clients who achieved a perfect 10 for 10 straight months. These men and women let nothing get in their way – holidays, deadlines, vacations, illness, work schedules… That’s the meaning of a Perfect 10.

Motivation, commitment, accountability… DEDICATION. There’s a lot to celebrate this month. Congratulations to all the Get Serious and Perfect 10 Club participants! Whether you’ve just stepped on the path, accomplished a goal, or are somewhere in between, be proud of your accomplishments, and remember, “10 in and 10 out,” baby!

Peace and love,
Todd
