What is Your Core?
By Todd Durkin, MA, CSCS
I just returned from teaching at a large Health Club up in Seattle, WA called PRO Sports Club. It is massive. 30,000 members, 800 employees, 110 full-time trainers. 4 different locations. It is quite an impressive place that was started by Dr. Mark Dedomenico, MD & Dick Knight, 42 years ago.
During their day of IMPACT, I got a chance to do 3 things.
1. Put all 110 trainers through a high-energy, dynamic workout. We had a blast.
2. Do a 90-minute presentation to all staff on “Creating a Consistent WOW Experience & Culture.” #WorkonYOU
3. Work with their leadership team on LEADING their team into the next “growth-phase” of their company.
And one of the things I spoke about was that when we are expanding, changing, or innovating (business or life), how uneasy & uncomfortable change is for many people. Any change. Even change that’s for the good.
One of the most important things when you are going through change is your maniacal focus on CORE-VALUES.
Because when you face adversity, ridicule, objection, non-belief from others, what ultimately are your pillars in which you lay your foundation?
How about you? What are your CORE-VALUES?
What are the CORE-VALUES of the company/organization you work for or own?
What ultimately are your non-negotiables, despite any kickback from “outside” or “inside” forces?
My friends, I know some of us are being challenged today?
Some folks in the TD Mastermind Group are facing employee situations that they must deal with. Not easy.
Some folks are looking at expanding their businesses but members or employees may not agree with all decisions.
Some people and athletes are being challenged health-wise. They are injured right now and battling through adversity.
The WOW this week is CORE.
Not CORE as in your abdominals, obliques, and lower back muscles.
But CORE as in the essence of who you are. Your faith. You deepest, inner-self. When you strip away everything else, what are the deepest values you hold? This is WHO you are!!!
ACTION Steps:
1. Define the 3-5 words that MOST describe your CORE-VALUES personally.
2. Define your companies top 3-5 CORE-VALUES.
And than when you get tested, challenged, or have to fight through adversity, NEVER negotiate on your CORE-VALUES.
Thanks my friends. Let’s keep fighting…keep the faith…and keep your CORE!
Todd
P.S. And by the way, if you’re not being challenged with adversity right now, it’s still a great exercise to identify your CORE-VALUES. Because at some point in the future WHEN you face some rocky-waters, you can get through them in the best way possible.
And oh-yes, if you would like to do some extra “CORE” work this week with me, I’m in need of that too… Let’s GO!
