What a special month this has been thus far! Last week, you got to meet my oldest son, Luke. This week, I’m sitting down with my middle son, Brady Durkin, and I can’t wait for you to hear this conversation. Brady is entering his senior year at High Point University (NC), pursuing his passion for media production, film, and storytelling. But this episode goes way beyond cameras, movies, and books. It’s about purpose. It’s about discipline. It’s about creating something that matters. I’s about learning to stay present while chasing big dreams. As Melanie and I prepare to become empty nesters, these conversations with my kids have become even more meaningful, and I pray they encourage you as much as they’ve inspired me.
In true IMPACT SHOW podcast fashion, we flip the script halfway through the episode, and Brady turns the microphone around to interview me with some deep, thought-provoking questions. Let’s just say…he definitely didn’t go easy on his dad!
In this episode, you’ll hear:
- Why Brady believes stories have the power to change lives
- How and why he’s pursuing a career in film production and creative storytelling
- The incredible experience of working behind the scenes on the upcoming
Christmas film All That Glitters at Christmas - Lessons learned from director Paul Joyner about servant leadership and caring for people
- The story behind Brady’s first novel, Lesser, and what inspired him to write over 70,000 words while balancing college life
- Why consistency—not perfection—is the key to accomplishing big dreams
- The importance of staying present instead of constantly worrying about the future
- How discipline is built one day, one decision, and one small win at a time
- Brady’s vision for graduate school, filmmaking, and creating stories that leave a lasting impact
- Our favorite family memories—from Disneyland to Europe—and why those moments matter more than ever
- Brady’s honest questions for me about regrets, work-life balance, coaching, leadership, and dreaming big
- My advice for young leaders about networking, taking action, and putting your work out into the world before it's “perfect”
- Why your purpose is discovered by doing—not waiting
One of the things I admire most about Brady is that he’s never been afraid to walk his own path. He’s a deep thinker, an incredible storyteller, and someone who genuinely wants to use his gifts to make people better. Whether it’s through film, writing, or simply serving the people around him, I believe God has incredible things in store for him.
As you listen today, I hope you’re reminded that your dreams do matter—but so does today’s work. Stay faithful to the process. Stay present. Keep showing up. And don’t be afraid to create the thing that’s been stirring in your heart. You never know how God will use it.
