A Tribute to Zig Ziglar

A Tribute to Zig Ziglar
By Todd Durkin

America lost a motivational icon on Tuesday. 86 year old author, speaker, and empowerment guru Zig Ziglar passed away at the age of 86.  I have read many of Zig’s books, seen his workshops, and have certainly used many of his quotes before. I have loved his work ever since I was first exposed to him over 15 years ago.

Here are my Top 10 “Ziggisms” of ALL-TIME:

1. You don’t have to be great to start; but you have to start to be great.

2. It’s not what happens to you that determines how far you go in life; it is how you handle what happens to you.

3. Expect the best. Prepare for the worst. Capitalize on what comes.

4. You can have anything you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want.

5. Confidence is going after Moby Dick in a rowboat and taking the tartar sauce with you.

6. It was character that got us out of bed, commitment that moved us into action, and discipline that enabled us to follow through.

7. Success is dependent upon the glands—sweat glands.

8. Our favorite attitude should be gratitude.

9. Motivation is like bathing.  You need it every day otherwise you start to stink.

10. Your attitude determines your altitude.

11. There are no traffic jams along the extra mile.

I had to add the extra “And then some” in there. Zig was one of the guys I studied. And read. And watched.

Zig Ziglar was an IMPACT player. He reached and inspired millions of people worldwide. And I love how he spoke about success. Most of his quotes embody what it takes to be successful in any walk of life.

Great effort. Sweat. Attitude. Discipline. Commitment. Motivation. Determination. Belief. Confidence. Gratitude. Courage. And then some.

Cheers to you Zig. Thanks for IMPACTing me. And thanks for IMPACTing millions of others.  You will be missed.  But your legacy will live on.
