How to Make the Perfect Beaming Superfood Smoothie

How to Make the Perfect Beaming Superfood Smoothie

We asked our friends over at Beaming to put together some healthy nutritional tips to help you float through the holidays with grace and wellness!

Yes, you heard it here. Beaming’s going to give you the inside scoop on how to make your favorite, healthy, beaming smoothies right in your own kitchen.

“A Can’t Go Wrong Smoothie” starts off with the Beaming Basic Smoothie recipe (see below).  Then simply pick any additional layers of superfoods (we’ve already made sure it has plenty), fruits, and veggies that please your palette and serve your body best.

Want to learn a little more? Knowledge is power and it’s important to understand superfoods – what they do, why you’d use them, and how these rocking smoothies stack up against your favorite juices.

Smoothies vs. Juice:

While juices are rich in enzymes and power packed with minerals that get absorbed immediately into your bloodstream, smoothies are their fiber-filled, superfood-enhanced cousins. They act as meal replacements and, unlike juice, will hold you over for a while. One isn’t better than the other per se. They’re both incredibly important to a healing regime so we encourage you to continue to enjoy both.

NOTE: There is one caveat to smoothies and juices that can push them to the brink of unhealthy. SUGAR. Be careful what you press in your juices and throw in your smoothies. Keeping the sugars lower will allow your body to have steady energy while avoiding an insulin rush (the hormones that draw sugars into the cells for nutrition).

Add In the Superfoods & Protein

Superfoods are not only antioxidant rich, but have a wealth of healthy benefits. Here are a few of Beaming’s favorites:

Cacao – an incredible source of magnesium. Cacao may boost your energy, keeps you focused and alert, while relaxing your muscles.

Maca – an adaptogenic root (meaning it helps to normalize imbalances), maca is shown to increase energy, balance hormones and light your libido

Spirulina – contains 8 essential amino acids and 10 non essential aminos that support good health. A highly digestible form of vitamins including B’s, it’s rich in antioxidants, photo-nutrients, and carotenoids.

Goji – these immune boosting little berries contain 15 times the amount of iron in spinach as well as calcium, zinc, selenium, and other trace minerals. They’re anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal. A nutritional powerhouse!

Coconut Butter – contains medium chain triglycerides (fatty acids) that your body prefers to burn for energy. It also contains lauric acid, which is anti fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral, therefore it helps to boost your immune system.

Organic Goodness
Treat your smoothie like a healing elixir. Add a few handfuls of nature’s bounty and play around with the flavors (Organic whenever possible, please!). This will give you more bang for your nutrient buck.

Spinach – packed with flavonoids (anti-cancer properties), neoxanthin and violaxanthin, which reduce inflammation. Also has 337% of the recommended RDA of vitamin A in just one cup.

Kale – rich in calcium to help support your bone health, kale has more iron per calorie than beef, and packed with fiber and sulfur making it a stellar detoxing food to keep your liver healthy.

Mango – beyond loving the flavor of mango, we love that mangoes are skin beautifiers. Plus they are immune boosting, cholesterol lowering, and cancer preventatives.

Strawberries – Low in sugar, rich in vitamin C, sweet, delicious strawberries contain a wealth of antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory compounds

Banana – will thicken up a smoothie in no time. Peel, slice, and freeze. These cubes of ‘nana will get your smoothie thick and chilly and will squelch your sweet tooth.

Blueberries – fiber rich blues aide in reducing belly fat, preserve your vision, boost your brain health, and are one of the number one fruits rich in antioxidants.

Dates – bet you didn’t know dates are high in iron. Sweet as can be, dates give your smoothie thickness, sweetness, richness, and a boost of fiber.
