TD’s Most Asked Questions | February 2018

It’s safe to say this Q & A got a little cray cray…

We kicked things off with a LIVE look at the Fitness Quest 10 Olympics (betcha didn’t know I’m a gold-medalist curler), before I tackled YOUR questions… hoodie head and all!

*Watch the Facebook LIVE video HERE or keep scrolling for a few of your most-asked questions and my answers.

Is it better to knock out longer workouts less frequently or shorter workouts more frequently?

I’m a big believer in the benefits of frequency. It’s a key component to results, so I suggest you opt for more frequent workouts. Despite popular belief, you don’t need to spend 60-90+ minutes at the gym to see results. Who has time for that? In fact, workouts that last too long can do more damage than good. Opt for shorter, more frequent workout bursts and kick up the intensity!

What are some of your favorite workout tunes?

Man, I LOVE this question! I always kick off a killer training session with “Motivated” by NF. Boom, sucka!!! That right there is my theme song (I debuted it in this epic pump-up video at IDEA World 2017).

After my man NF, I bounce between several songs from the Rocky IV soundtrack and a plethora of Eminem’s hits. When you’re pumping iron, you can’t go wrong with either!

TD, describe your perfect morning:

Well, you already know how I feel about morning routines, so here’s what mine looks like:

  • 15 minutes of quiet time to be used for journaling, prayer, and gratitude. This is the BEST way to start the day.
  • Next, I pop on some NF and Eminem and head to the garage for fasted cardio (more on that later).
  • During cardio, my pre-workout caffeine and CarnoSyn® Beta-Alanine kicks in (talk about on fiyyaaaa!) and I typically kick things up a notch with some TRX circuits or weight training. Heck, I may even record a Dose of Durkin to share my #Contagiasm!
  • Post-workout, it’s time to get ready for the day and rev my metabolism with a healthy breakfast

Is your Beta-Alanine brand always CarnoSyn®?

Short answer: Yes.

Here’s why: CarnoSyn® is a safe, reputable, and ethical brand that has completed 44+ studies to prove their product’s effectiveness and safety. You know I care about what goes in my body, and science shows CarnoSyn® Beta-Alanine works. Take a look at the ingredients list on your favorite pre-workout to see if it has the good stuff :). Popular and respected brands like Inner Armour and JYM typically use high-quality ingredients like CarnoSyn® Beta-Alanine.

What’s the best way to get started on a ketogenic diet?

Honestly, getting started is the hardest part. I was first introduced to keto on NBC STRONG and eased my body into ketosis by supplementing with KETO // OS and eliminating carbs. I’d suggest you do the same, and consider adding in a food journal for good measure.

The next step is increasing fat, which was a challenge for me. As you get used to the reduction in carbs, increase your intake of healthy fats like avocado, olive oil, and fish.

Todd, what’re your thoughts on intermittent fasting?

Intermittent fasting has worked wonders for me. I always thought I needed to stay at my football weight, 220+ pounds, to be happy and healthy. With the help of intermittent fasting and fasted cardio, I’m now a sliver under 200 and feeling better than ever. I feel leaner and meaner (in a good way) thanks to I.F.!

I practice intermittent fasting three times per week. While some people confuse I.F. with starving, it’s simply taking the calories you’d consume throughout an entire day and consuming them in an 8-hour window. With the same caloric intake, you have the same energy. You’re just manipulating the timing of ingestion. I’ll continue to play with I.F. for years to come and truly believe it’s been a huge part of my personal transformation.
